The Best Books I Read In 2016

According to Goodreads, I read 91 books in 2016 – well above my goal of 75 books. I had started the year with a goal of 50 but quickly realized that I’d surpass that number easily after I started my book blog. 2016 was my best reading year yet! I almost tripled the number of books I read in my previous highest reading years. But 2016 wasn’t a great year for me just in the number of books read, but also in the quality of the books I read.

Book Characters I’d Like To Meet Under The Mistletoe

I don’t usually do holiday-themed blog posts. Didn’t do any for Halloween, Thanksgiving, or any other holidays celebrated in the U.S…and I wasn’t planning on doing a Christmas-themed post either, but I was suddenly inspired to write one by Becca @ Becca & Books after I read her post on blogging prompts for December.

Bibliography Spotlight – Tristan J. Tarwater

Are you a fan of sci-fi, fantasy, graphic novels, and role playing games? Personally, I love all those things. If you do as well, or even just one or two of them, then let me introduce you to Tristan J. Tarwater!

She’s written several works already and is planning many more, but I just want to highlight some of her most prominent and notable books. Tristan has very kindly provided descriptions of some of her books to give readers a taste of what they may expect.

Graphic Novels: Mini Reviews (Batch #1)

Before I started book blogging, I didn’t read many graphic novels at all, and especially not comic books. That’s because I was a horrible book snob who only wanted to read literary fiction. Little did I know how limited my reading experiences were!

Fortunately, I created this blog to expand my horizons and actively diversify my reading. The results are that I have read more graphic novels just in the last 8 months than I have in the past several years! I’m so proud of myself and also glad that I got over my stupid and stubborn aversion to reading them. Honestly, they are a so fun to read! They’re also a natural ego booster for a slow reader like myself because even I can finish them quickly.

I plan to periodically provide mini-reviews in small batches because I’m kind of obsessed with reviewing and promoting all the diverse literature I personally read. Below are a few of my favorite recent graphic novels.

Review – Beyond: The Queer Sci-Fi & Fantasy Comic Anthology

This anthology is one of the most important works of Queer literature I have read in a while. Granted, I haven’t read the vast majority of Queer literature, but Beyond is personal and special. This is the kind of book I wish I had read when I was a teenager, or even younger, because it would have shown me perspectives and ways to live a life authentically that I considered unimaginable.

This Weekend I am Reading For 24 out of 48 Hours | #24in48

During the 48 hours that comprise July 23 and July 24 2016, I will be joining the #24in48 readathon. Have you heard about it? Are you joining? If not, really do consider it because huge readathons are great way to meet fellow book dragons and make reading an (even) more social activity as a blogger!

The goal is to attempt to read up to 24 hours in a time period of 48 hours. However, you can devote as much time to reading as you want! It’s very low pressure.
